Default Create folder/file causes explorer.exe to crash

Hi!
I have a problem that occurs when I'm trying to create a new folder or file,
this causes explorer.exe to crash. I assume that some files are corrupt or
missing so i have tried to run "sfc /scannow". The program prompts me to
insert installation CD. When I do that I don't seem to have the same version
of Windows on my PC as on the CD, the program refuses to continue.

Any hints on what the problem is caused by and how I can solve it. The crash
problem also occurs when I'm exiting Outlook and start Acrobat Reader.

Any help is appreciated.

Gus,
To check the version of windows right click on my computer and select
properties. Under the general tab you should have the version. BTW what
version does the cd have labelled on it? Are the two the same?

The program says that I have Windows SP Home Edition version 5.1 (Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2). The installation CD is the
original i received from Dell when I bought the computer december 2002.
Sorry, but this doesn't solve my problem.

Regards /Gus

If you have XP Home and it asks for your XP Pro CD, see this KB article...

You may be prompted to insert a Windows XP Professional CD when you run the
System File Checker tool in Windows XP Home Edition
