Default how to put hdd from second pc into main pc

Hi There

I have to dell pc's new one 5150 second one 4700.
What I would like to do is connect both together using one screen etc, but
would this mean I will have to have a dual boot system or if I just use a
crossover cable just to see files etc on second comp.
Or if i installed second hd into main comp would I have to take off os on
second drive.

Thanks for any help

Your post is unclear. If you want to use both computers with one
keyboard/monitor/mouse, you simply need to buy a KVM
(Keyboard-Video-Mouse) switch. Examples:

http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...ubCategory=143

If this isn't what you wanted to know, please post back with a better
description of what you are trying to do.

Also, Sue, two, too, to.

You can abandon the 4700 and install the older drive in the
5150 as a slave IF the 5150 has an available IDE connector.
My wife has a E510 and it has all the IDE connectors used
with the DVD drives. All the hard drives are SATA. When
the second drive is installed as a slave, it will not boot
unless the primary master fails. To create a dual boot
system, you must have a boot loader on the C: drive that
will allow you to select which drive you want to boot.
[This requires either two or more hard drives or partitions
on one hard drive. You can install the drive temporarily
and copy files and then re-install it back into the 4700,
you do not have to remove Windows from the drive, since it
didn't boot, the Windows folder and the programs installed
on that drive will not function, but the data files can be
accessed and used normally.

You can create a network with a cross-over cable or if you
use cable or DSL, just add a router after your modem and use
standard CAT 5 cables. XP has a wizard to help you setup
the network whether you use a router or cross-over cable.
This allows full use of both computers simultaneously.

A KVM switch allows the use of one keyboard, video [display]
and mouse to control more than one computer. These may well
cost more than the router and certainly more than a
cross-over cable, but save desk space. Depending on what
keyboard and mouse type you have (PS/2 or USB) you may have
to look for a compatible KVM switch.
