Default video movies

hi everyone
I captured my movies from my sony camcorder and then went to edit them with
movie maker and other video software.
When I returned to view the files, the files were blurry and pixilated or
moving blocks in motion so u cant really see people or things in the movie
Im desperate to get the movie quality clear again or how they used to be
when they were first captured.
I cant understand how this happened, but I think I changed it to different
formats or something. Im using windows vista but the issue occured on windows
xp and somehow is a little bit clearer on vista but still no better. Ive used
various video editing software to no luck.
please I need help, I'll try anything and everything

hi papajohn thanks for replying
my camcorder is sony handycam
however the issue occured when I had my old canon mini dv camcorder (I dont
know what brand it is as I dont have it anymore) and the operating system was
windows xp. I had used Windows Movie Maker, Nero and others I cant think of.

In relation to the issue, as I thought it was because I changed different
formats ie avi to wmv wmv to dv-avi etc so I experiemented by using my
current camcorder (sony handycam) and a new tape with new film. First I
captured it onto the computer. To be on the safe side, I copied the movie
into a different folder and then edited the copy into different formats. The
result was that the picture was still clear and not choppy or pixelated or
blurry.

I really cant understand this as when I viewed the films on camcorder
(canon)before capturing them they were clear and there were no problems.

The speed and condition of the hard drive is important to playing DV-AVI
files smoothly. And Movie Maker in project mode uses a rough draft lower
quality mode. So maybe there's nothing wrong with the files or computer.
Free up space on the drive and defrag it.

Even if fragmented, the quality of the video should flow OK from the source
files into the saved movies.
