Firewall on leads to no internet access
i followed the 5 steps shown on the microsoft.com page to
turn on the firewall in my brand new 4600C and lost all connectivity. I did not disconnect from the lan first as other steps call for--didn't see them. using the lan at my daughter's college for explorer and aol TCP access. Anyone got any clues how to reset the system when the enable firewall box is not checked, but yet you cannot connect to the internet and aol is acting like it is a dial up system only now? Dell "experts" are stumped. Thanks |

Firewall on leads to no internet access
You can't use the built-in XP firewall with AOL. Try a hardware firewall
(preferable - like a NetGear FVS318, not just a NAT device) or see www.sygate.com wrote: i followed the 5 steps shown on the microsoft.com page to turn on the firewall in my brand new 4600C and lost all connectivity. Firewall on leads to no internet access
Greetings --
You'll either need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is compatible with the real Internet.. AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products, and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS. Don't ever count on having both at once. -- RAH wrote in message ... i followed the 5 steps shown on the microsoft.com page to turn on the firewall in my brand new 4600C and lost all connectivity.
