Default NVIDIA 7300GT Drivers won't work in XP Pro ( at least for me)

Hello all,

The latest video drivers for the 7300GT card from Nvidia will not
install on my and others machines. The first thing I did was log into
the Nvidia forum and found others with similiar problems but no
solutions.

Initially the driver appeared that it was loaded and going to work but
when I went to reboot the machine it was using the default VGA driver.
Looking in Device Manager I couldn't even SEE that the card was there,
tried to use the "Install new Hardware" and Nvidia wasn't there
either.

I didn't know how to get XP Pro to see that card. I eventually used
System Restore and that solved my problem for the moment. Iam back to
where I was. I then found some drivers, newer than what I had and
installed those, but they still aren't the newest ones and it looks
like there won't be any new ones anytime soon.

I was curious to know if anyone in this forum had a similiar miserable
experience with Nvidia and their lack of support. I wanted to update
the drivers thinking it might help my machine from not waking up from
S3 standby. Maybe I should have let the machine look on the 'net for
drivers, they might not have been as fancy but they might have worked!

Thank you all in advance,

Tinsby

FWIW...it's best to uninstall the current nVidia
driver and reboot the machine before installing
updated drivers. And...of course...it's important
to create a System Restore point before you
begin.

Best practice is to download the driver to your
hard drive and install from there. To install the
driver just double left click it and it will install.
And...never allow Windows to search the net
for drivers.

Just wondering...is the following driver the
one you downloaded and installed?

GeForce Release 182
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.50_whql.html

There are install hints on the nVidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_...ion_hints.html

Maybe the following article will offer some ideas
about Standby:

(907477) How to troubleshoot hibernation
and standby issues in Windows XP

Good luck...
