Default Batch file Renamer?

I just got done renaming 200+ photos from my camera. I did it one at a
time. What a pain in the ass! I only want to rename PART of the file.
For example PICTURE001 PICTURE002 PICTURE003. I want to keep the
numbers, but change the name to CAMP2015-001 CAMP2015-002 CAMP2015-003.

Is there some simple program to rename parts of files in a batch?

I'd prefer something that is FREE, and EASY (Not bloated). It would be
nice if it worked in both XP and Win98, but if it only works on XP, that
will be ok.

Radarlove,

Is there some simple program to rename parts of files in a batch?

If you think you're upto it you could try to write such a "program"
yourself, using an build-in scripting language. I myself often use VBS, but
IIRC you could also use JS.

If you need info on the commands of those scripting languages you could do
worse than to look on w3Schools.

Bulk Rename Utility
www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk

I'm almost certain XXCopy will do this for free, both in win98 and XP
and 7 and 8 and probably 10, but I don't remember how, and it's hard to
beat something named bulkrenameutility, unless it has a cost that is not
low enough.

The trouble with XXCopy is that it does so many things the manual is too
long, but if you want, I'll refresh my memory, which shluld take a lot
less time than learning from scratch.

lol, so I go there to have a look, click on Screenshot and Woa, lol,
they are right to say in the tutorial to Not Panic! Not sure if it
qualifies as easy.

To rename pictures in bulk I use ACDSee 3.1 (circa 1999). You can select
a bunch of pics and rename to "Camp2015-###" and it will do it, the #'s
are replaced. You can do more fancy stuff in multiple steps.

BulkRenameUtility of course does a lot more, and might be easy to use,
but it sure doesn't /look/ easy ;-)

I have ACDsee 2.4 installed on my Win98 machine. That's been there for
many years. I never saw the need to upgrade it. My version dont do the
bulk rename. Any idea where I can find version 3.1? oldapps.com dont
have it. I'm sure if I try to get a newer version from their own site,
it will be the newest, and I believe that was a paid program.

Good day.

I had a look at the program's history, and it appears that "Rename
Series" was added in v2.3, so you should have it (in the Tools Menu). I
got into the habit of renaming files with gibberish so long as the order
was correct, then select everything and "Rename Series" and give them a
name with ### in it...
