Default Removing Items from Taskbar

Is there any way to remove the items on the lower right
of the taskbar without actually uninstalling the
associated program? I know you can select to hide them,
but I'm looking to actually remove them from the list
altogether.

Check the program itself for an option to prevent loading at Startup.

Click Start, Run and enter MSCONFIG Go to the Startup tab and disable the
item there.
