How do I enable Java Applets?
Greetings --
As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed he http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html. If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows Update to apply a needed security patch. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-011 http://www.microsoft.com/security/se...s/ms03-011.asp (Prevents the Trojan.ByteVerify issue) Bruce Chambers -- Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. -- RAH "Paul" wrote in message ... |

How do I enable Java Applets?
Thx for your help.. The application I was trying to run indicated that it was installing the Microsoft VM, but I suspect it did not complete because of the lawsuit outcome. I downloaded and installed the Sum JRE and am going to reboot and see if it works.
Thx again. ----- Bruce Chambers wrote: ----- Greetings -- As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java Virtual Machine to Windows users. How do I enable Java Applets?
I installed the Sun JRE, restarted and checked the console to make sure it is enabled with Internet Explorer. When I go to a site that uses an applet, I still am told that my browser is not set up to allow Java Applets. Should I download and install the
Microsoft VM and all the updates? Thx again for your help |

probably, if you really need or want to use that particular web site. Many web developers designed their sites to work only with the Microsoft implementation of Java, rather than the more generic Sun versions.
