Default XP proffesional slowing my system.

Hi, My windows XP is slowing all of my system down, no
matter what software I open up, it makes no difference
and I don't get any error messages either and it takes
ages and to close them as well. My system is: Processor
P4 2.4Gh and 512DDR 133RAM. and a 80GB HD.
So Please! Can anyone tell me what is causing my problem,
and tell me what I have to do to remedy it. Please don't
say FORMAT THE HD.

I'm having similar problems. I have improved the system by uninstalling
unused programs, by performing a disk cleanup, and by defragmenting my
disks.

If you have installed Windows Update 811493, uninstall it. It has caused
slowdowns in many computers. Go to control Panel, Add/Remove programs,
scroll down to Hotfix 811493, click on it and click remove. Ignore any
warning message you may get.

I've done all what you've said, the only thing I haven't
done is format the HD. Or use the system restore and
either one of these I don't really want to do unless it's
absolutely necessary.

Look in Control Panel, Add/remove Programs, then in the list, look for a =
hotfix number 811493. If you have that installed, uninstall it, =
disregard any message with a list of programs that may not function if =
you remove it. Reboot, and post back.
