Default Printing error and a scanner message

When beginning a print job on my Lexmark X73, it tells me that it has a problem communicating with the printer and that I do not have bidirectional support. It gives me suggestions on what to do, like having the printer on when Windows starts. I've tried i
t, and it stills give me the message. The other option is to figure out if my printer handles bidirectional support. I don't know how to do that. And, if I hit cancel it prints the job anyway.
Also, every time my printer is turned on, I get a safely remove hardware in the taskbar. It tells me the my scanner's drivers are unable to be found, yet my scanner stills works perfectly fine.
I have done the download o the new driver on their website, but still I get the error.
Everyone in my family's annoyed by this, so it would be great if anybody could help!
