Default Registry problem

Xref: kermit microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain:180834

When I boot, I get an error message which says the
registry is full and will not ignore any additions.
I have gone through many of the newsgroup messages about
the registry and a common answer is that XP's registry
does not need an external program to keep it clean.
Why would I get this message? and what can be done about
it?

take care
Bob
