Windows Updates?

Is it possible to have windows automatic update--update when logged on as a limited account..PS the admin account is not logged on. If possible how do I set it up. I also have the same situation with with Nortons Anti-Virus--I need these both programs to
update themselves while only a limited account is logged on ___any help would be appreciated

Hi,

You must be logged on as Administrator or a user with administrative rights
to perform update operations.

You can try the following to get into Windows Update from limited
user-account:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /savecred /user:Administrator
%SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe
This would start a DOS type window asking for the "Administrator" account
password. Once you provide the password Windows Update site launches and
scans for updates.

If the above method works please create a copy of the Windows Update
shortcut by:
1. Right mouse click on desktop and select New - Shortcut
2. In the text box under "Type the location of the item:" , type as below
and click Next.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /savecred /user:Administrator
%SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe
3. In the text box under "Type a name for this shortcut:" type a name (For
eg: Windows Update)
4. Click Finish

You can change "Administrator" to other name with Administrator equivalent
account.

You could do the same for your Norton updates. Create another shortcut and
type "C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /savecred /user:Administrator PATH OF
THE NORTON UPDATE"

In the above text please copy the path for the Norton Update .exe file and
replace it with PATH OF THE NORTON UPDATE

Thank you for your prompt response---by using the script you mentioned it would also enable my limited users access to the admin account password. Which in it self will create a whole different set of problems. I noticed that when I create a new admin acco
unt in addition the the original buillt in one. The new admin account can change any passwords he or she wants to. It there a way That I can block the changing the original admin account password From being changed by anyone other than the originator. some
of my people need admin privleges but I'm afraid of being locked out of my own machines.

Any suggestions ????

Hi,

It's not possible to prevent the new admin account from changing the
password of the Original Built-in account because the new admin has the
same rights as the Built-in Administrator. Be careful to whom you assign
the new admin account. Admins are to be trusted and it not ethical for
admins to change other admins password.
