Default VPN and standby/hibernate

Has anyone found a way of automatically starting up a VPN connection (or
anything else for that matter) when a computer wakes from standby or
hibernate - I am having trouble with laptops going to sleep and not
reestablishing connections when they re-awake

cheers in advance
