Auto Update hangs after installing SP2.
I installed Windows XP SP2 yesterday. Under the Auto-Update optins, I
selected updates to be downloaded and then notified they are ready to be installed. The update website states the same; so I know both sides are in check. My problem is as follows: the yellow security shield icon comes up in the taskbar stating that it is downloading updates. The problem is that the downloading is constantly freezing at different points while I am online. It is currently stuck at 67% complete and has been so for the past hour. It was stuck at 56% complete before I shut down last night and went to bed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. FYI... Did not have this problem before SP2. -- Richard Quartararo |

Auto Update hangs after installing SP2.
Hi Richard,
Disable the autodownloading, then reboot and restart it. Also, while it is disabled, delete the WUTemp folder on the root of the system drive, or at least the contents of it. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Richard Quartararo" wrote in message ... Auto Update still hangs
Hi Rick,
I tried what you suggested and it does not seem to have worked. The downloading went from 67% to 80% and stopped again. Also, when I went to delete the WUTemp folder, the folder was empty. I still deleted it though. I have the log file for windows update and there are error mesages in it...would this help you? Thanks again!
