Default Installing SP1 over SP2

I need SP2 off my system as most of the games I play are not compatible and
are old. The 4 methods Microsoft describe don't work me as my copy of Windows
was installed upgraded.

Is it possible to install SP1 over SP2 via CD?

No, it is not. If your copy of Windows was installed with SP2 integrated,
then the only way to go to SP1 would be to wipe the machine and load
Windows XP with SP1 from scratch.

If you post back with specifics of the problems you are having (what
application, what error, how does it behave, etc), someone may be able to
help you work through the issue. Don't forget to include specifics about
your hardware as well.

Thanks for quick response. Ahh its far too specific. I'll do what you say
though. Seems the only option.

Default System Restore will take you to SP1

I'd like to respectfully disagree with Tom on the point that he has to wipe
and load his machine to go back to SP1 from SP2. I used system restore to do
this successfully several times and I have screenshots of the XP SP2 install
and it's screen that sets a restore point on install which is a frequent
MSFT habit now with service packs and upgrades to apps like WMP.

SP2 includes of course SP1 with it. You can upgrade to SP2 from RTM or SP1.
But..like a number of software apps, WMP10, WMP9 for example from MSFT, a
restore point is set on the install with SP2 not to mention the 5 or so
default times when System Restore sets restore points. You can go back to
SP1 by making use of System Restore. If you haven't used SR before, here
are step by step screenshots:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/system_restore.htm

When testing different versions of SP2 on machines for months, there were a
number of times I wanted to see if the glitch was SP2 induced, and I simply
used SR to go back to SP1. If you want to uninstall SP2 totally, then
there is an uninstall mechanism for that he

Then you need to re-read the original post. Specifically this statement -
"my copy of Windows was installed upgraded". If Windows XP is installed
from a source that already has SP2 integrated into the installation media,
as I take that statement to mean, then the only way to get SP2 off of the
system and revert to SP1 is a wipe and load. SR won't do it as there are
no restore points in existence from before the SP2 install since it was
installed with the base OS.

Default Upgrade! You are correct.

You are correct sir. I blew over that important distinction. Thanks Tom.
