XP Pro SP2 System date intermittently increases by one.
Hi all
Has anyone any ideas as to why my system date intermittently increases by one. (For example, changes from Monday Jan 3 to Tuesday Jan 4, with the time remaining correct.) I have a well maintained XP Pro SP2 system. No hardware problems. No malware. I am the only user. It is a stand alone computer. Alternatively, how can I log the "culprit" that is causing this event? Thanks in advance. Please address any replies to the news group. My email address is false. Bert |

Hi Frank
Many thanks for your reply. It is much appreciated. The problem was present with Norton System Works 2004 (Professional) and it is still present with Norton System Works 2005 (Premier). Both were done with a clean install. I have to admit NSW 2004/2005 is my prime suspect. The problem was present on November 10 and NSW 2005 was installed on November 28. Please address any replies to the news group. My email address is false. Bert "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP" wrote in message ... Hi all
A bit of judicious auditing has shown that System Mechanic 5 is changing the date when its cleanup function is run, but not always changing it back. Please address any replies to the news group. Is System Mechanic part of Norton?
(I haven't installed a Norton product since just after Symantec bought Norton and I installed/uninstalled their first release.) -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP, IE/OE Please respond in Newsgroup only. Hi Frank
No, System Mechanic is not part of Symantec. Here is the reply I received from their Tech Support: "Thank you for using System Mechanic 5. This is caused by the Clean your Tracks tool option "Erase History Record Files of Visited Web Pages". There is certain data on the system which are in use and locked. In order to access and clean the data, the tool forwards the system date by one day, erases the files, and then resets the date to the correct day. If this is causing a problem with your system or other applications, it is recommended to turning off the option. From within System Mechanic 4 and 5: 1. Click on the CLEAN tool group. 2. Click on the Clean up your tracks tool. 3. Select the Internet History tab. 4. Uncheck the box labelled Erase History Record Files of Visited Web Pages." Please address any replies to the news group.
