Default Need help - suffering from Virtual Memory problem (SP2) - MORE

I have installed WXP SP2 on my new machine - ASUS K8V SE with 512MB
DDR400 and 60G HDD with 50% unused.

While the machine is simply sitting there in idle showing the desktop
only, I quickly get the error-warning bubble saying virtual memory is
too low etc. When I try to cancel things or simply shut down, I
cannot - the system is froze.

I should have added that I increased my 'paging' sizes from 765/1000
to 1000/2000 - it did no good.

Help, please?

Thanks

I visited the above URL, read most of everything mentioning virtual
memory. But many of the problem areas are with software that I am not
using.

In the meantime I changed the paging file 'settings' to minimum 1000M
& maximum 4000M. I left the machine in 'idle' (except for processes
running background of course), and left displayed the Task
Window-Processes. I watched 'commit charge' (???) progress upward
from something like 800M / 1400M to what is now 4472M / 4477M.

My system is now locked! That is, if I double click on desktop
folders, they do nothing! I did not get the 'insuffient virtual
memory' bubble, but I suspect I should have.

I removed all icons representing apps running in the background from
the taskbar to reduce the number of active apps. The above 'commit
charge' decreased slightly, but quickly returned to the above values
AND I remain hung up.

It took some 2 hours of sitting 'idle' to get to the failure. I
suspect that if I shut down and re-boot, this whole scenario will
repeat again.

Something is "eating up" your RAM and I suspect it's adware/spyware. Why not
give it a try. You'll be surprised at the number of pests that might be on
your machine.
