Hi Brian,
System Restore monitors partitions. It can not monitor only part of a partition. What is it you are attempting to achieve? -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://dts-l.org/ BrianMultiLanguage wrote: Can system restore be pointed to something else beside the root drive? Bert, I can only surmise that he is labouring under the misapprehension that RPs are snapshots of his entire system and he wishes to change the save location so that he can restore them if he needs to reinstall. Sorry, Brian but, if that's what you're thinking, I can't quash that here and now - RPs are snapshots of vital system files only and, if you reinstall, would be completely useless as they pertain only to the installation under which they were created. -- In memory of MS MVP Alex Nichol: http://www.dts-l.org/ |

Make room on the root drive.

Hi Miss Perspicacia,
The question is unclear and raises more questions. I think Brian should read the following description of SR and repost his question. http://home.earthlink.net/~mvp_bert/...scription.html -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://dts-l.org/ Miss Perspicacia Tick wrote: Bert Kinney wrote: Hi Brian, System Restore monitors partitions. Hi Brian,
No. There is a folder on each drive (System Volume Information or SVI for short) where System Restore stores it's restore point information. This destination can not be changed or rerouted. The size of the SVI folder can be changed by adjusting the amount of space uses to store restore points. Take a look at this article for information on making the adjustments. http://home.earthlink.net/~mvp_bert/html/healthy.html -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://dts-l.org/ BrianMultiLanguage wrote: Make room on the root drive. So Xp restore is just like ME version.
Ok, well I'll turn it off. If you can not control the animal, get rid of it. Thanks all. System Restore in XP is similar to the ME version but not exactly the
same. Disabling SR is an option, but so is a larger hard drive. -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://dts-l.org/ BrianMultiLanguage wrote: So Xp restore is just like ME version. In that regard, a tighter coded OS would be an option too.
