Default Uninstalling NIS 2006....

If Symantec has any tech support people reading this forum..please
respond. I'll make it brief.

My 60 day trial of NIS 2006 through MS is finished, trying to uninstall
it.

I've used the Symantec program uninstaller, off their website, ran it
at least 5 times. Everytime, they said it was successful.

In Security Setting in XP, its telling me that Norton Worm Protection
is on, and so is NAV, although, according to Symantec, they have been
uninstalled 5 times.

I deleted all remnant files off the hard drive, went into the registry,
did searches on Norton and Symantec keys and registry entries...took me
about 45 minutes of searches, and allegedly according to XP all the
entries are gone.

What do I have to do now? hire a voodoo priestess?

I know Norton writes to every single file in your computer, but with
"protection" like this....you would think there would be a way to
uninstall everything off the drive, without having to reformat.

Ideas? I got the priestess on hold in Bimini.....

You'd think with all the negatives posted in the Windows XP newsgroups about
Norton removal problems that a symantec rep would be employed fulltime to
handle the problems.

Since Norton reps don't even hang out in their own support area, I'm certain
you won't see them here.

But, you can try the

I think that their decisions are driven by their sales results, not by
reports of problems. And since their sales results are driven by their
advertising, not by reports of problems in the newsgroups (which have a tiny
audience compared to their advertising), it's just not something they're
interesting in spending money on.

Have you tried SERVICE.MSC, and see if there are any remnants left there?

Also, a hidden device maybe loaded.

Open Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager
View | Show Hidden Devices

Look thru the list, right click on each item and check what driver it is and
who it belongs to.

Also, use AutoRuns from www.sysinternals.com and look under Winlogin tab.
See if they added anything there.

Number 1: Thanks Tom and Ken and New Science...I appreciate the
replies...

The only thing i can think of doing that I cant seem to get rid of...is
Symantec Core LC.....I checked services...turned it off....and the only
place I can find it, is in the registry...and it won't let me delete
the registry keys.

I cant think of anything I didnt do...to be honest...everything I did
previously, I did again today..and thats the only thing left on my
system Symantec or Norton oriented.

And again, thanks for the help.

You can delete the keys in the registry if you right-click on them and
take ownership.
