Default Windows Messenger 5.1 Startup Failure

I am unable to startup Windows Messenger 5.1.

I am using Windows XP SP2. I am unable to startup the Windows Messenger
5.1, I get an error. The Windows Messenger 5.1 does not show up on
Add/Remove program list. When I try to install, the only option I get is to
repair...the installation completes...when I try to startup I get an error
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration
is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Please Help!
