HELP!! Messenger 5.1.0701
Ok, I know this isn't really the best place to post this but I am at wits-end.
I am currently running in a Server 2000 and Exchange 2000 environment. All my my users and workstations are currently on XP Pro using Messenger 5.1.0701 for our inhouse IM. Here is my problem; I have installed Vista on a workstation to better familiarize myself with the new OS before it starts to affect my users and Messenger 5.1.0701 is now incompatable and will crash is forced to load and is used. I am now in the process of upgrading to a 2003 environment (both for Server and Exchange) and also standing up a Live Office Communication Server 2005. I just now noticed that Messenger 5.1 is one of the requirements for LCS. How can I work around this, or is there a newer version of Messenger that will work with Vista? |

HELP!! Messenger 5.1.0701
In this NG I read that Messenger 5.1 should work with vista. Go to my post
dated 8. January 07 (messenger integrated in Vista?) There you will also read that there is an Office Communicator. |

HELP!! Messenger 5.1.0701
According to the White Papers
(Office_Communicator_2005_Planning_and_Deployment. doc) for Communicator 2005...let me copy and paste.... Planning Your Communicator 2005 Deployment Planning is the very first step in the process of deploying Communicator 2005 in your enterprise. Before making the decision to purchase and deploy Communicator 2005 in your enterprise, it is critical that you understand the dependencies and prerequisites for Communicator 2005. The following are the primary dependencies. • Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 and a dependency on Active Directory • Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003, Standard and Enterprise Editions, and as related dependencies: • Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 • Internet Information Server 6.0 • Windows Messenger 5.1 I also posted under your topic to help discribe the problem i am having with 5.1.0701. I can tell Messenger to run anyway and it will, it will even let me log in and will appear to work and function fine. The problem comes when a chat inside a chat window is large enough to require the use of a scroll bar, that is when the program crashes. HELP!! Messenger 5.1.0701
Hi,
Indeed. So I guess (and I realize this is completely and absolutely laughable) a workaround is to maximize the window and close it (Esc is a fast way) before the scroll bar appears. Looks like the problem might be in the RichEdit control given the crash data. If we're lucky, it may get fixed by Redmond with a new build although I haven't heard anything. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2007 Jonathan Kay.
