Default dark monitor colors

HI, I've got an old ibm aptiva 2140L46, cpu pentium 2 266, os windows
xp pro, with an ibm 2128 mm75 multimedia crt monitor 17" and an ati
3d rage pro agp 2x video card.

Here is my problem: the monitor settings are all set to the brightest
possible (both brightness and contrast) but the colors are getting
darker day by day.

Do you have any suggestion to fix this problem? Is it a monitor/video
drivers problem or just the old age of my monitor (10 years old)?
(btw in the tab driver of my monitor I read: Microsoft,
6/6/2001,5.1.2001.0,Microsoft windows publisher; by clicking on driver
details I read: no file driver is needed or was uploaded for the
monitor. In the tab driver of my video card I read the same as above
but by clicking on driver details I can see 2 file drivers supplied by
Ati).
Thanks!

Augusto

The monitor is probably screwed. This little
program http://files.filefront.com/932340
will enable you to adjust the brightness even
if the monitor setting are at the max. It is only
a temporary fix, it may help until you can replace
the monitor.

There is sometimes a little pot "under the hood" that can be
adjusted. At least that was the way with VT monitors.
I have the opposite problem, mine is too bright -
no pot mentioned in schematics ...

If it's green, I reckon you can put it in tin-foil and dry it on the
manifold.

Pot=potentiometer, or more exact, a rheostat in this case.
