Default printer doesn't work after system restart/reboot

I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W installed on a Dell Dimension XPS
T700r. When the computer is shut down or restarted, the printer stops
working. I have contacted the printer manufacturer, and they have told me
that it is a problem with the computer, not the printer.

We have been leaving the computer on, with standby/sleep mode turned on to
save a bit of power. I only restart the computer occasionally, and then have
to uninstall the printer, and reinstall it.

You can see that it's not feasible for us to continue to reinstall the
printer everytime the computer is shut down, especially since I am only in
the office twice a week, and my boss is not very computer savvy.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you set the USB ports to sleep when not being used.... Right
click on My Computer, select Properties.... from the Hardware tab, click on
Device Manager and scroll down until you see the USB entries.... check the
properties of each controller and ensure the option to sleep is NOT checked.

No luck. The USB ports are not set to sleep, and we also don't have a USB
printer. I'm sure it's plugged into the LPT1 port.

I've checked all the connections, and everything looks fine.

This change was all of the sudden, with no changes to the system or the
hardware. It just stopped working one day. I've also run the anti-virus
software, and no viruses either.

Any more suggestions?
