Disable Startup Programs for one user only

I've a question regarding, as the subject says, how Windows treats multiple
users. I'd like to create an account where all the startup programs are
disabled except the essentials (windows essentials, a fire wall, symantec),
primarily for gaming purposes. I would like this to not change my main
account. Also, will disabling services for the gaming account also disable
them for the main account?

Actually windows vista incorporates that feature into the OS,for xp, 02/07
TechNet magazine byon Jones Does that thru windows PowerShell.....

Hi,
Try this:
Open windows Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\Nass\StartMenu\Programs\StartUp = Delete what you
don't want for "Nass" to not have on the start Up.
If you mean by not allowing Nass some Applications from using at all, then
try to reconfigure this through either way:
GPO: Group Policy, by Open a run command and type in:
gpedit.msc click [OK] and look under the Administrative Templates and
locate that User " Nass" and see what He/She can have to start up and
programs to be allowed or denied, that if you have a XP pro, you can do this
on XP HE.

If the Programs have the feature of Telling yoy do you need this app to be
used bY you Admin or all user you can select By Me the Admin and Deny other
user(S0 or you can select other users and deny other the right to access, you
need to be logged as Admin to do all of that in either cases.
Using the Firewall, a third-party firewall can have the feature of assigning
Programs Permission and user permissions to access Apps and use them to
connect to the internet.
Please let us know your OS version and what software you wanted that user to
not have access and what firewall/Anti-Virus you may have to give exact
answer.

I'm using XP Pro. I'd like to eliminate any programs that use extra RAM that
aren't essential for the computer to run. I'm running Comodo Personal
Firewall Pro and Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition. Both of those need to
stay running. I think the group policy can do what I need. Does it also
handle services? Or can those only be disabled on a whole machine basis?

Open a run Command and type in:
gpedit.msc click [OK]
On the group Policy locate this option under:
User Configuration
[ ] Software Settings
[ ] Windows Settings
[-] Administrative Templates
[ ] Windows Components
[-] Internet Explorer
Here you can set the security feature to be allowed fro that user
like Download, Media Player, Flash Player, Toolbars use.

[&] Start Menu and Taskbar
[-] Dekstop[*] Active Desktop = Look here and see what item you want to
disable for that user[*] Active Directory =
[ ] Control panel
[ ] Shared Folder
[+] Network
[ -] System[*] User profile[*] Scripts[*] Ctrl+Alt+Del Options[*]Logon = Look in the Right pane/Window and you will see:
Run these programs at user logon = click Properties and you can
set the Programs for this user Start Up
this will proceed the Windows Default StartUp programs and will
load only these programs assigned to this user.
* The same with reset of Runonce and Legacy run list.

Thanks! I edited the logon settings to allow only a few programs to run, but
its not being applied, to either my Admin account or the other one I set up.
How do I apply the settings to just one of the accounts?

Hi,
Try to take them from the Start Up option by doing this:
Open windows explorer and locate this path:
C:\Documents and Settings \Local user\StartUp Menu\Programs\StartUp = Look
in the right pane/window and you will find the programs running/starting at
startUp, remove what you don't want, also you can remove the programs from
Programs and that user will have this program on their list of app and can't
use it.
