Default Document failed to print - change timeout or message?

Hi all,

When using TCP/IP ports to print to a common printer, a user will get
the message "Document failed to print" if the printer is busy. The
document does print within a few minutes, when the current job
finishes.

I would like to change the wording of this message and/or increase the
timeout that makes this bubble appear. I would even use a solution
that makes the message not appear in the first place.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
T.

You can only configure for informational notifications, this is an error
notification so the user will always get notified when the write fails to
the device since someone else is actively printing. It's one of the reasons
some people go with a print server.

If the device supports SNMP, is the port configured for SNMP? I don't think
this will matter but it might make some difference. The write file will hit
the error in about 90 seconds when the device fails to acknowledge the
tcp/ip connection. Is the port configure in RAW or LPR mode? Read the
printer nic interface information and determine if the host service can park
inbound data and inform the port monitor to wait but typically the doc
failed to print is the error generated when writeport fails which is 90
seconds.

I don't think this is any timeout stuff for any balloon notifications it's
nothing in printing.

Thanks again, Alan.

You've been a wealth of information as I toy with all the different
ways to host printers, and of course all the issues I run into as I do
so. I'm learning a lot, and appreciate your time.

T.
