Where are my desktop shortcuts?
Hi,
I just started my XP Pro as usual and got the msn messenger panel with the entertainment news etc., on it and a panel came up saying the script was bad and did I want to run it anyway. This happened twice. I now can't see any of my shortcuts as well as the task bar., just a blank XP wallpaper of the grass. The only way around it is by ctrl alt del to the Task manager and then opening up the browser and choosing a program which will load okay. As soon as I close the program though it disappears and i am left with an empty XP wallpaper screen again. I have checked the other uses on the box and it is fine there. The icons are on the screen and everything is okay. It is only on my user and I am the administrator. Any help please? |

Try a system restore to a date prior to the onset of the problem.

Do a ctl-alt-del then click file run from the task manager and run
explorer.exe, does that bring the icons back. -- Ignore posts made by the person called Leythos, he is a stalker who's been obsessed with me for years ever since I spurned his advances towards me. Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST Block list? -- Leythos - (remove 999 to email me) Public Service Warning: Learn about PCButts before you trust: http://forums.speedguide.net/archive.../t-223485.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pcbutts1+thief |

Hi, Yes that does bring then icons back and I can then proceed with most things although it will not let me add a usb drive showing me the Rundll32.exe problem panel which it shows every now and then when I try to initiate something. I have noticed that as time goes on the box gets slower and in task mgr it shows explorer at 99% CPU. I have to end it then start again. I have also noticed some some processes that I am not used to seeing such as.. mDNSResponder.rxe wscntfy.exe inetinfo.exe pwrisovm.exe If I reboot boot, I firstly get 2 userinit.exe panel messages then the rundll32 ones. The strange thing is that this happened on a previous hard drive so I decided to reinstall XP on a new drive which is one I am having trouble with now. I have only reinstalled my programs which I have had on for months if not years. The only thing I brought ovre from the old hard drive was Firefox so I think if this is a virus it maybe came with that. Is there a way that I can copy over a copy of rundll32 or usernit.exe from another computer which is also running the same version of XP without any problems for many months now? Thank you. rock |
