windows installer

I'm running xp and just recently I have started getting a message when I try
to install any software that there is a installation already in progress .
It says to complete it and retry. I can not find anything else running.
I've tried a system restore and no help. Any suggestions

I can't install tghe cleanup utility because i hace another installation in
process. The error is: " Error 1500. Another installation is in progress.
You must complete that installation before continuing this one."

Have you tried installing the software in Safe Mode? To do this restart your
system and simultaneously press F8 function key. You will get black screen with
white writings on it. Use your arrow keys to go to the first item called Safe
Mode. You may need to press enter key when the cursor is in Safe Mode Item.

Let us know what happens.

Because of the "Another installation is already in progress" error you
may not or probably will not be able to install the Windows Installer
CleanUp Utility package. If you cannot install the utility use a
utility like WinZip to unzip the installer package and use MsiZap at the
command prompt.

Use MsiZapU.exe (MsiZapA.exe is for W9x).

Reboot or kill the msiexec.exe process from the task manager.

Thanks tons. I had to kill the process about 6 times I had attempted to
download some Photoshop stuff and had it hung up. It looks like it
originally hung up on an aborted download fior my security suite. Thanks
again for your help.
