Windows XP Logon

Can someone help me to eliminate (bypass) the Windows XP logon screen. I am
the only one to use my computer and not in public. It is an inconvenience to
login. I have not set up a password.

Here are two options.

1. Go to Start - Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on the account you
want to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

2. Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is
available here.

Once the program is installed, go to Start - All Programs -
Powertoys for Windows XP - TweakUI.
Click the + sign next to Logon in the left hand column.
Click on Autologon.
In the right hand pane, put a check mark in the box next to
"Logon automatically at system startup".
Enter the name of your user account in the User Name box.
Hit the Set Password button and enter your password twice.
Note: You should skip this step if your account has a blank
password.
Click OK to close TweakUI.
Restart your computer to see if you get the desired results.

Click Start Control Panel Doubel click User Accounts.
On the user accounts select the user you want to apply this to and uncheck
this check box:

[ ] Use welcome screen

Click [ Apply Options ] Button and you are out of the user accounts UI.
Reboot your machine, does it represent you with the Welcome Screen?

I tried the userpasswords2 step and it totally screwed up my system. It created an entirely new administrator account and on this account I cannot even access ms office. How can I eliminate this new account and at least get back to where I was. I can switch accounts to get back to my original desktop but what a mess.

Sounds like you didn't click on your user account in the Users for this
computer box and then left Administrator entered in the User name box in the
next dialog. To correct this, do the following.

Run control userpasswords2 again.
Put the check mark back in the box next to "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer".
Next, go back and uncheck the box.
Hit the Apply button.
You should now see the Automatically Log On dialog.
In the User name box, replace Administrator with the name of your user
account.
Click OK twice.
Restart your computer.

If malware succeeds in getting launched under an account that is already
logged-on, then it has the priveleges of that account. It does not need the
password.
