Cannot add new printer... operation cannot be completed
Hi -- I have a very similar but slightly different problem than the ones I've
been reading about here, and am hoping someone has dealt with it before. Replaced failed HD w/ brand-new one (no previous drivers, etc.). Installed WinXP, SP2 and all updates. When I go to install printer, I click Add printer, and error message "Operation cannot be completed" displays. (No additional info.) Thought perhaps one of the spooler dll's might have been corrupted, ran SFC. Still same error message when trying to install printer. Reformatted HD, reinstalled WinXP etc., tried installing printer again, same error message. Cleaned spooler per messages found in this forum: same error message. It can't be the printer drivers, because I never get far enough to select a printer. The error message displays as soon as I click Add Printer. Anyone dealt w/ this before? Any suggestions? I should also add that I did verify the spooler service and RPC service were
running, and that I am not trying to install a local printer, but a network printer. Thanks.
