Download the 'uninstaller' for your OS. run it and then reboot the
system. After the reboot, you can download and install the 'Adobe Flash
Player' and install it correctly.

Hello Carmel, thanks for trying to help, but no joy. I started by putting a
link to the Flash Player download page on my desktop. I downloaded the
uninstall for flash player. I had been using it to remove Flash Player and
it was leaving remnants that would be removed on reboot. Even with a
complete removal (no reboot reg.) it still will not install. The
proprietary download manager completes and it gives a complete installation
but when the test page comes up I still get nothing. There is a minute
instance where the page looks as if it is trying to access the Flash Content
then reverts to empty space with a red X in the left corner. I even tried
to do the install in Safe Mode with networking. Any other suggestions will
be appreciated. Thanks again.

Perhaps you are running a Flash Blocker of some sort. The program
SpywareBlaster, for instance, contains one.
