I am running windows xp and up to 2 weeks ago could get very rapid
connections to the internet. Now when I click on Internet explorer it takes
15 seconds to open the window and then 30 to 35 seconds to get the live view
of my home page (BBC).
The only change to the computer has been the upgrade (so called) of the BBC
iplayer.
I have ran my virus checker, ad-aware, spy-bot, root checker and ccleaner
but no increase in speed. I have disconnected the router and re-connected.
Note that all was well 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Measured download speeds vary from 4000 to 5000kps.
Anyone any idea what I can try next?
Thank you

BBC IPlayer (The downloaded version) is a Peer to Peer networking software
which will be using your machine as a node for other users.
This will slow down both your machine and your internet connection, and you
may find your ISP is throttling your connection further because it thinks
you are downloading torrents.

Look in task Manager / Processes for Kservice.exe - this is the Peer to Peer
service.

Try uninstalling IPlayer and see if this improves things.

Thanks Alistair, I have now tried that but no difference. In some way the
link from the computer via the rouyter or to the router has slowed down.
I shall keep experimenting.
