Hi Nancy,

Does this help at all - posted earlier by "Squire"

"Click Start, right click My Computer & Properties, click Advanced,
undervPerformance, click Settings, scroll down,
click Use Drop Shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop."

Default Desktop Icon Text

Hi Nancy,

By default in XP, it can't be manually changed. The text changes on its own
from dark to light depending on the color of the background. It is based on
the Desktop color not the Wallpaper. The combo is whether or not you are
using a Wallpaper and what the Desktop color is.

If you are wanting to remove the text or make it transparent: Right click
the icon in question, choose Rename, hold down the ALT key and type 0160
from the keypad.
