Default Display properties cannot be saved.

Here is another mystery with Windows XP:
My display properties, such as resolution and color,
cannot be saved once I logged out of my account.
I have Windows XP, with SP1 and all the fixes installed,
running in my home Dell 8500 laptop with 64 MB graphic
card.
I changed my color setting to 16-bit one time it is stuck
there ever since. Once I logged into my account, I can
change any display settings I want, including resolution
and color, and it functions flawlessly. If I log out and
back in the next time, it resets back to my old resolution
and 16-bit color.
I setup another account while I am in my ideal resolution
and color, and the new account will have that setting.
But then that setting cannot be change (similar to what
happended to my account).
The funny thing is I was able to change my display
properties before in XP and was able to retain those
properties on my next login, so it is not a "design in"
problem.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom,

Under the subkey Monitor is where your preferences are stored:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr ent
Version\Control Panel\Settings\Video

This key changes between 32 and 16 bit:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre nt
Version\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count]

Thank you, I tried manually changing the settings in the=20
Registry, but it still reset itself. Finally I found out=20
the in the MSCONFIG, there is a Nwiz.exe (NVIDIA wizard)=20
as a startup item. Once I turned this off, the problem=20
went away.
