No video from Media player on my TV

I have a number of MPEG files which play great through
Windows Media Player on my XP laptop. Problem is the
Media Player video does not appear on the TV which the
laptop is connected to. The desktop, and even the Media
Player controls show up fine on the TV , just no video.
Any idea why that is happening?
