Media State Disconnected- please help!!
Greetings Bill,
Have you tried updating the drivers for the network card? ________________ Eric "Bill Ray" wrote in message news I have a client that is using a Netgear Wireless-G card. However, the other night while I was attempting to network the laptop into her home system, the wireless card ceased to function. I thought it was a faulty card so I took it back and got another one, which I have confirmed is good on another machine. However, this card's behavior in my client's system is only partly functional. The card can send data packets but is unable to receive. I've been through tech support with Netgear and got basically nowhere. I've determined that the problem is within WinXP; I can't release the IP because the "Media state is disconnected". So, I can't renew either. I'm goin' nuts!!! can anyone maybe point me in a direction that will resolve this problem? Thanks!! BR |

Here is the order in which you shuould try things -
1. Ensure you have updated drivers for Windows XP (as Eric mentioned below) 2. Go to the wireless network and ensure that you are able to see the access point in the 'View Available Networks'. Try 'refresh' a couple times and ensure that you are close enough to the access point. 3. Check if the user has any new electronics that operate in the 2.4GHz band. If it still shows media state disconnecetd, it may be good reason to suspect the hardware - AP or NIC. -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
