firwall problem with access
I am running XP on a desktop. I am having limited access to the internet. I
have checked the firewall security. It states that I have a firewall running but I'm sure that I've shut all firewalls off. However, Windows is stating that a firewall is running and so the security GUI displays a firewall is ON. I have only tried two other firewalls and I think I've removed them. One was zonealarm and the other was a personal window firewall, or something like that. I have also shut off the ICS but to no avail. Is there a hosts file or something that is hosed? Any help is greatly appreciated. Also I have tried to look for ways to determine what firewall is running but have been unsuccessful. I understand that I need a firewall, however, it appears that I can only use IE6 and netscape8 and nothing else. Suggestions. |

Can you explain please what Limited access mean?, why you need to run without firewall, do you drive your car without breaks?, what happen when you access the internet and what other browsers you want to use and how many?. What anti-virus you have on this machine or is it a zombie experiment on how to get the machine infested quickly?. HTH. nass ---- http://www.nasstec.co.uk |

firwall problem with access
Limited means that I get an error stating that firefox can't get to the
internet. This error is also reflected with Netscape Navigator. I am using AVG for my virus protection. I have turned the windows firewall back on but doens't seem to help/ Also the gateway router I am using is blinking constantly when the desktop is connected to it. This essentially stops any other computers from connecting to the router and getting to the internet. So maybe it's a gateway issue but not sure. Type ipconfig You should see a gate way address listed. Type ping the gate way address you say For example on my system I would type: ping 192.168.0.1 Does it respond? What do you see? Have you tried turning the router off then back on? Dennis |

firwall problem with access
Hi,
I've shut it off before but that doesn't help. In fact I've check the firewall on the router and found it's not on. So, that's not the problem.... My laptops can connect and don't seem to have any issues. The only thing is that the desktop that is directly connected to my gateway seems to suck up all the bandwidth and doesn't allow any of the other computers to have access. That's one issue but the other is having FiREFOX, NETSCAPE, and other programs access to the internet. I only can run IE6 and NETSCAPE8. Other programs can't get to the internet.... Ideas?? The only thing is that the desktop that is directly connected to my gateway seems to suck up all the bandwidth and doesn't allow any of the other computers to have access. Try running Wireshark/Ethereal on the workstation that's having problems. If it really is sucking up the bandwidth, you may have a bot consuming the bandwidth. Also bring up task manager and see if you can see any process consuming a lot of cpu or bandwidth. That's one issue but the other is having FiREFOX, NETSCAPE, and other programs access to the internet. I only can run IE6 and NETSCAPE8. Other programs can't get to the internet.... Ideas?? So IE and Netscape can? That's odd. Try a de-install and re-install of Firefox. Might help. Dennis |
