Default Permissions left behind by WHS!

I recently changed to Windows XP from Windows Home Server.

However, it might seem this wasn't very smart, as WHS left its permissions
behind, meaning that I can't access half my folders and files now.

I would somehow need to remove these permissions so I could claim ownership
over my folders/files again.

Thanks!

I see that no one has answered you. I saw your post yesterday and puzzled
over what it really means. Since you can't install XP over WHS, you must
mean that you've saved data files somewhere else and now are getting
"access denied" errors. Or at least this is my guess. If I'm correct, then
simply take ownership of the files:

Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421

How Do I Get the Security tab in Folder Properties? -
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_security_tab.htm

If you mean something else, then post back with a better description of what
you've done and the problem.

That was EXACTLY what I meant! And I now have full control of my files
again. Thank you so much!

Default Permissions left behind by WHS!

Update --

Actually, I thought so, since it seemed I could open the files, but,
apparently not.

Is there a way I can take full control of the folders and files inside at
the same time? I still get the access denied error.

Also, if it's relevant, I used Drive Extender in WHS before isntalling XP,
and it splitted it up over 2 drives.

No, you simply need to take ownership fully. I expect you didn't go to the
Advanced part. Do this and make sure you check the box to allow permissions
to be inherited from the parent object. Read through the instructions at
that link again.

I don't know what "Drive Extender" is. If this is part of WHS (which I
haven't installed yet so can't address any issues with it) then check on
the WHS forums:

http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsh...aspx?siteid=50

If "Drive Extender" is a third-party program, check with them to see if
using it could have caused problems with your data.

Thanks.
