Default Xerox Phaser 6180N won't print from DOS COPY

I have a Xerox Phaser 6180N laser printer connected to lpt3.

I can print to it from a DOS accounting app that my company uses. However,
I'm trying to send a control code to select the multi purpose bypass tray. I
haven't been able to do so, so I tested sending a text file by using:

"COPY filename.txt lpt3" and "COPY filename.txt lpt3 /b"

Neither command or any version of it works. The control panel displays
"Cancelling job..." The same thing happens when I use the PRINT command.

Any ideas about what the problem is?
