Default Sound suddenly lost

Suddenly, out of nowhere, my computer will no longer play sound from the
internet, i-tunes, media player, or cd drive. It will still play sound from
my music recording software, but only that. I made no changes and do not
understand why this happened. Please help

Check your volume controls and mute buttons - all of them.
