When I tried to sign in to this forum, I didn't see a Sign In icon at the top
(as it mentions in the infomration panel). Why not? I did click on the "New" and then I was asked for my password, which I entered, and then was allowed to post this message. I believe I've seen the Sign In icon at the top in the past, but wonder why I do not see it today. Any suggestions/solutions? Alice |

This is a newsgroup, not a forum. You are using a web interface to read
a newsgroup. Instead of frustrating yourself by trying to read a newsgroup through a web interface, read this newsgroup and all newsgroups the proper way: with a newsreader. Outlook Express is your newsreader in Windows XP. In Windows Vista it's Windows Mail. "Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader" http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm "Accessing Newsgroups With Windows Mail" http://vistasupport.mvps.org/accessi...ndows_mail.htm --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est AliceZ wrote: When I tried to sign in to this forum, I didn't see a Sign In icon at the top (as it mentions in the infomration panel). The reason you're having such problems is that you are using the awful web interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest, clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows XP, or Windows Mail, which comes with Vista. As far back as I can remember, I have always been able to enter these
Community Boards, with no problems. Why, now, am I having so much trouble signing-in? Could it because I installed IE7? Is there any other "newsreaders" besides the MS ones? A very simple one to use, etc.? Thank you. ======= "Leonard Grey" wrote: This is a newsgroup, not a forum. You are using a web interface to read a newsgroup. The web interface is having more than its normal problems at the
moment. No, it is not because you installed IE7. You will get a far better experience of newsgroups if you use a proper newsreader instead of that slow and quirky web interface you are using. SNIP Agent (which I use) *http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php I see that Agent requires payment: $30. Can anyone recommend a free news reader? I use NetNewsWire on my Macintosh and it is just superb in that is fast, intuitive, free, and does not bombard you with adds. In fact, no adds of any sort. Anything like out there for Windows? Thanks, Carl |

My recommendation is that, at least as a start, you use Outlook Express (even though I don't). I recommend it because it's part of Windows, and you already have it. See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm to learn how to set it up and use it. Outlook Express is not the best newsreader, but it's not a terrible one either. Using it will give you experience with a newsreader under Windows, and let you find out which of its features you like, what you don't like, and what features you are missing. Once you've had enough experience with it to know those things, it would be a good idea to try several of the downloadable newsreaders, whether freeware or shareware, and see how they meet *your* needs. Although I personally use and like Agent 5.0, we all have different likes, dislikes and needs, and I recommend that you don't just go with my recommendation or anyone else's; try them for yourself, and make your own decision. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
