can't open image sequences on network
i'm on a network and i'm trying to open an image sequence with Adobe After
Effects and Autodesk 3D Studio Max but they don't recognize the numbered file lists as sequences they only recognize them as individual files this only happens to files on the network, if i copy the image sequence to my computer locally the image sequences open fine, both applications recognize the files as sequences has this ever happened to anyone, and do you know how to fix it? i'm almost positive this is a Windows networking problem and not an application problem with After Effects or 3ds Max because my computer is the only computer on the network that is having this problem, the other computers on our network can open the image sequences on the network fine so i think maybe this computer wasn't set up to the network correctly or maybe there are settings i have to change here is an example of the problem: the folder on the network i'm working off of is mapped as the Z: drive lets say the image sequence is located in the Z:\images folder and say the sequence is 48 frames, the start frame is test0001.tga, the end frame is test0048.tga if i try to import a file in After Effects (File | Import | File...) and navigate to the Z:\images folder and click on the first file (test0001.tga), or any file, in the image sequence at the bottom of the Open Dialog the image sequence options are disabled or grayed out at the bottom of the Open Dialog it should say: Import As: Footage [x] Targa Sequence (these are check boxes) [ ] Force alphabetical order but for me it says: Import As: Footage [ ] Sequence not available [ ] Force alphabetical order and everything is grayed out/disabled so i can't select how to import the footage as or check the sequence box, so i never get a chance to import the files as a sequence, the files are recognized only as single files not part of a numbered list if i copy the folder to my computer locally like for example to: C:\images and i try to import the file from there everything is fine, the Import As: Footage, and Targa Sequence options are enabled and the image sequence loads fine also if the folder is saved on to a removable harddrive like an external HD or jump drive it also works fine, the only problems happen if the files are on the network and it only happens to my computer, the other computers on the network can load image sequences off the network fine so is there a proper way to map the network drive or set up a network on my computer that might solve this problem? or are there settings i can change for the network that would fix the problem? to map the network here is what i did (for the example i'll use WKserv as the server, and Project as the volume on the server): 1. Start | My Computer 2. clicked folders icon and navigated to: My Network Places | Entire Network | Microsoft Windows Network | Workgroup | WKserv | Project 3. entered my log in information and saved it 4. right clicked on My Network Places and clicked Map Network Drive 5. set the Drive letter to Z: 6. set the Folder to: \\WKserv\Project 7. checked Reconnect at logon, and hit Finish Any help would be appreciated, i've never had this problem before that's why it's so strange right now to work around it i'm just copying my files from the network to a local folder and working off that but it's time consuming transferring files and just annoying, i'd rather just fix the problem thanks, -dan |
