Default Have static IP address, but tcp/ip property page always shows “Obtain IP address automatically”, Windows XP

I am seeing some strange behavior, and was wondering if anyone else
has encountered this, or knows how to fix it.

I have assigned a static IP address to my computer, but when I open
the TCP/IP Properties page for the connection, the option "Obtain an
IP address automatically" is always selected. However, ipconfig shows
that the network adapter has the correct static address, and my
connectivity is just fine.

Any ideas why the property page shows incorrect information? a bad
registry key? something else? I don't see anything suspicious in the
event viewer either.

I am running Windows XP, and the network card is an Intel 82566MM
Gigabit adapter

Thanks, Jen

Run my diagnostic tool called whatslivern. That file after a few seconds,
when complete, will generate a log file. That log file will be saved in the
same directory you ran the program from, using the email link at the bottom
of my page send me a copy of that log file.

===============

I have found that some network adapters just cannot reliably use static IP
addresses.

I have been running a system where a fixed IP is used for a broadcast
source, so receiving systems only have to be set up once. The broadcast
source, acutally a court reporter, varies as different reporters are
assigned to the job. Some of the systems just can not establish the fixed
IP at all, but if the adapter is set to DHCP, function perfectly.

Toggling between fixed and dynamic also toggles between broken and working.

On one of my desktop HP systems, the embedded gigabit adapter failed on
setting it to fixed, but again worked perfectly on dynamic. Installing a
second adapter (with a different chip) immediately allowed successful
setting a fixed IP address, with *no* other changes to the system.

This applied whether I ran XP, Server 2003, or Linux on that box. Fixed
failed, dynamic worked.

So I will suggest that this may be an anomaly with the network card itself,
having nothing to do with Windows or any other OS.

I will also suggest that this problem might be more common than is realized;
it's just not reported because comparatively few people use fixed IP
addresses.

How many complaints are you going to file before you will realize that it is
not a valid complaint and nothing will be done? Are going to file a
complaint on everyone who posts with the name Leythos. You need to grow up.

And you really think ATT will believe your lies? Tell me are you going to
blame ATT like you blamed her hosting company when they did not believe you?
Your posting history shows that you will.

Why don't you either grow up and stop impersonating people PCBUTTS?
