Internet connect box
Since Java was put on my computer it provides me with another IP log on box.
I don't need two. How can I rid myself of the Java log on box? Thanks very much. James |

James Installing Java doesn't create another user. I don't know what you mean by "another IP log on". An IP address has no log on; it's just a network address. It is possible that you installed .Net Framework 1.1 and the ASP.NET account was created and now you have to click your user account to log into Windows. I'm guessing that this is possibly what you're talking about. If that is the case, installing the .Net Framework Service Pack from Windows Update will take care of it. Or you can follow the instructions at the second link below (or use TweakUI) to automatically log on. ASP.NET account - http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.php Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm If this isn't what you meant, please clarify. No, what I mean is that when I turn on my computer a box comes on to let me
connect to the internet with my user name and password. Now, with Java on here I get two of those boxes. I just need one, as we all do. It's a nusance thing. One is being put up by my I P, the other by Java. How can I get rid of the Java connect box. James By "I P" you mean "ISP" - Internet Service Provider? I have installed the Java runtime on thousands of machines over the years and have never seen this behavior. Java is a programming language that is most often used to create web content such as the games you find on Yahoo or PopCap. It isn't involved with connecting to the Internet at all. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp You must have installed something else, but there is no way for me to guess what that would be. I suggest you uninstall whatever it was you installed and see if that solves your issue. If it does, contact the tech support for whatever that program is to ask them about its behavior. I can't recall anything else I've loaded. The reason I say Java is because
when it is shown in the bottom pane or toolbar it shows the Java logo. I think i will delete the Java program since I don't know what it's for anyway. If, like you said, it's for programs and gaming, I don't do that anyway. Thanks for your help. James "Patrick Keenan" wrote: "james w. morgan" wrote in message ... Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ java is not just for games. Some WWW pages will need java to display certain things. If java is not installed, the WWW page that needs it should ask you if you want to install it. Go ahead and uninstall all your java runtime from Add/Remove programs. Reboot and see if you still have your problem. If you need the java runtime later, you will be given the option to install it again. It won't hurt to have it installed and java should not be asking you about any logon questions. java should use your browser settings for credentials which should already work. If java is asking your for some credentials, something is not set up right and might be fixed easily. Uninstall and reinstall may be needed depending on what is wrong - that is safe. The only time you should see the java logo (coffee cup) is when it is running along with a WWW page, or updating itself. If you can describe in more detail just what you are seeing after trying the other options, it would be helpful. We can't see what you are seeing and can only go by your descriptions. "IP log on box" is a little low on descriptive details. Jose |
