Default CD-R/CD-RW Drive missing

Neither of my CDROM drives are listed in device manager. I've already deleted
the upper filters in my registry, (the lower filters were not present), along
with running the automated FIX IT FOR ME. Still, they've disappeared. Does
anyone have any suggestions??

Are they visible in the BIOS?
What version of Windows XP are you running (Service Pack level as well,
please.)

Herro Stanley,

The BIOS only allows either OFF, or AUTO, for these drives. They are both
listed as UNKNOWN DEVICES. I set them both on AUTO.
I am running XP Professional Build 2600, SP3.
Thank yo for your time!
