How do I upgrade from XP Home edition to XP Professional
Hello folks...
Happy new year to everyone! We are still a XP shop and XP will be our standard for a while longer and I can't change that. But now I need to upgrade four Dell notebook Computers from XP Home edition to XP PROFESSIONAL. I read somewhere that I can buy licensing for Windows 7 and then call Microsoft to obtain Media and product keys for XP Professional after I receive the Windows 7 media. Is that true? In any case, I need to get XP Professional for 4 Dell notebook computers. What is the best way to proceed and is this even possible? What phone number do I call at Microsoft to obtain this information perhaps even obtaining part numbers and get a clearly written document that says I can get this done? Please advise.... -- Bikini Browser of San Juan Puerto Rico Small Business Office Automation Small Business Document Imaging Solutions Networking Solutions using Linksys & Cisco Products http://www.daleallen.com (787) 637-9100 www.daleallen.com |

But why do you need Pro? There's not much difference between Home and Pro? (just curious) I think win7 with downgrade option only comes from OEM vendors, (anyone?) HTH |

Out of curiosity, which specific Pro-only features do you believe you need? You might be pleasantly surprised to learn that XP Home can do them, too! |

Not a very useful response either Daave. Bikini says he does require being
able to join a domain and use group policies which of course XP Home can't do.. "Daave" wrote in message ... Bikini did not say that in his/her first post, Steve. Also note that I

If all you need are four licenses to run XP Pro, you can purchase them along with the installation CDs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-515-_-Product There is no need to contact Microsoft. |

Excuse me Russ,
Are MVPs so pedantic to worry about petty matters? Don't you guys have anything better to do than worry about where it was posted to. I don't look at NG list in To row (nor do I expect anybody to do so) because I don't need to. I expect the OP to post it in the right group. If he didn't then tough luck. Get a life boy.
