Default Can't connect wifii printer to fios/optical router.

I got Verizon FIOS/optical phone/internet a few months ago and had no
trouble connecting the wifi printer to it. (It had been connected to
the DSL wifi router.)

The Verizon router wired connection failed (while the wifi continued to
work) and they sent me another one**.

On the Brother Multi-function Printer MFC-625DW, there is a touch screen
and I tried the Connection Wizard. I also pushed the Connect button on
the router (2 curved arrows in a circle) and the printer found the
router (that is, it displayed the Wi-Fi name) and it wanted the Key.
I took that to mean the WiFi password on the same sticker on the router
as had the Wifi name, and I entered that. The printer rejected it.
Twice. Even t hough I'm positive I typed it correctly the second time
and probably the first, fur099rag4486shone .

I thought that the first time I didn't even have to enter the password
so the next time, I scrolled farther down and found WPS/AOSS. I used
that and after a minute, it said it was connected.

The status key says it's Connected, signal is strong, infrastructure
mode.

But the printer doesn't show on the PC in the list of Devices and
Printers, and it's not offered as a printer choice when I want to print
something.

Is something wrong with infrastructure mode? Maybe I want
superstructure mode!

I did WPS/AOSS twice, with the same result, connected but not on the
PC.

So what is wrong?

And if you don't know, is there another active ng I should ask, and
should I call/chat Verizon or Brother? Who is more likely to know the
answer.

**They barely mentioned that I had to send back the bad one, and it was
iirc $160 if I didn't. It was only mentioned at the bottom of an email
that mostly said the new one was coming. I didn't even read the email
because the subject line was enough. And there was a shipping label
included with the new one, but no actual instructions to send back the
old one. (At least return shipping was free, and I got an email within
an hour thanking me for returning it, even though it couldn't have
gotten far from the UPS office by then.)

Not really a specifically win7 or win10 question but I don't know where
else to ask. I'm using win7 fwiw.

Have you (re)installed the printer on your PC? Normally, printer discovery
happens during printer installation, not when you're trying to print.

Does that mean I have to bring the printer into the room with the
computer so that a USB cable is long enough to connect them?

When I first got FIOS, all I had to do was what I've done the last two
times today. Although that was when the win10 computer was in use.
I've never used this laptop with this printer, so I guess I do have to
install it. YOU'RE RIGHT! Does that mean I have to bring the printer
into the room with the computer so that a USB cable is long enough to
connect them?

No, not at all. Just go to install a new printer and when the wizard asks
if the printer is local or networked, select the network option. The wizard
should scan for it and hopefully find it. The rest is straightforward.

Dang. I should have known that. I must be getting old.

Okay, I talked tonight to my chief of staff and my campaign manager and
we've ageed that I'm not going to run for re-election this fall. That
means there will be one more Senate seat without an incumbent. Or House
seat. I forget which.

But I did get the software installed and got it to print. It took a
long time to install (sat there seemingly doing nothing. I can't see
the HD light from where I'm sitting,) but other than that it went
smoothly.

All sounds good, can the printer output a status page showing you its IP
address?

Have you added the printer as a device?

I'm a bit rusty on Win7 printers, so start with the MS page ...

It did print out a page, but only with network name (SSID), MAC, comm.
mode, authentication type, encryption, and network channel.

No IP.

I figured out that what confused me was that last time, for the desktop
computer, connecting the printer to the network was the last step and I
was done. So I did that and I thought I was done. Forgot to put the
software on the newly used (laptop) computer.

Two major steps and they can be done in either order.

I'm a bit rusty on Win7 printers, so start with the MS page ...

Thanks.
