I (just) started playing one of the solitaire games the other day.
Lots of advertising pushing online gambling. Having explicitly chosen a
non-gambling lifestyle, I removed the app today. What's an operating
system seller colluding with the likes of
online gambling for...geeze? Yes, I know I could have paid to have
the ads removed, but it still seems wrong. End of rant. IMO, Shame on
MS; they lost a few "morality points" here, as far as I'm concerned, and
to my mind, this calls into question the morality or ethics built into
their other software. They don't give a damn about their users?

This works and I have it installed on several Win10 systems.

The quoting on your newsreader needs work.

There might be a QuoteFix for WLM. There was one for Outlook Express,
but a second method was prepared by someone for WLM.

You can always artificially insert a delimiter line
of characters to separate your response from the original material.

If things were working properly, it would look like

their other software. They don't give a damn about their users?

For me, disconnecting from the Internet before starting the game seems
to get rid of the ads.

Or you can use one of these alternatives:

"You Don’t Have to Pay $20 a Year for Solitaire and Minesweeper on Windows 10"
https://www.howtogeek.com/225128/you-dont-have-to-pay-20-a-year-for-solitaire-and-minesweeper-on-windows-10/

"How to get the classic Windows Solitaire game on Windows 10"

Microsoft removed the quoting option in WLM 2011.
It's the reason I reverted to, & still use, WLM 2009.
To use Quotefix you also have to install Autohotkey but IIRC it's not a
universal cure

If you're interested, you can get the old Windows 7 games, without ads,
back. Go to https://winaero.com/blog/get-windows...or-windows-10/

The required two files (referenced above) are here in a Zip file on my
Dropbox (wait for the underlined arrow to show near the top-right and
click it to Download the ZIP file). When extracted keep both files in
same folder, anywhere you like. Then make link to 'sol.exe':

I suggest trying PySol Fan Club Edition - a Python Solitaire Game
Collection - as a substitute for the MS collection from

Thanks for this suggestion and to Paul for pointing out the web site
with the Windows7 games. I just installed PySol, and I look forward to
exploring it's contents.

Of course, my primary reason for posting was to call out to you
Microsoft's participation in what I'd call "predatory gambling".
I don't believe that they need the money that bad..so why are they doing
it?

Cheers.

SEE the apparent apathy regarding this detail?
I'm not sure whether it is more a matter of not knowing, or not caring,
or perhaps, not believing. Visit to your local casino and see it with
your own eyes...LOL.
P.S. Everyone has to have a cause, and this is one of mine.

I don't know about you, but I see a constant barrage of advertising
when I use a computer. I see what nine out of ten dentists approve of,
what the gut doctor says you must never eat, something about
toenail fungus I can never figure out, scantily clad women grabbing
folds of fat, there is an endless stream of stuff that must be ignored.
Sometimes, I'm looking between the corners of adverts, for a tiny hole
so I can read the content.

If there was an advert for a casino in there, I'd never notice.

Check who the maker of your Solitaire is first... Then read this.

Using "Adblock Plus", I don't see that much, as I don't use social media
much either. If I had to see as much as some "websites intend", I
couldn't stand it!! According to Adblock, it has blocked 44,000 ads for
me in the last couple of days since I cleared the cache. I highly
recommend this program to you (to improve your experience).

There were "stop blocks" of full page video advertising--I had to turn
off the volume on my computer. You would notice. : )

In terms of hours per month in the past year, I mainly use Linux
(playing the game called "5 lines").

I found this site, to play "tripeaks", which is what I was playing on
Windows 10. I'm not sure who the maker is.

I read the article. I won't agree that "the ends justify the means"
though, to create advertising $$$. To me, predatory gambling is a "crime
against humanity". YMMV.

Cheers,
Bill

In addition to the Windows games i also have XM Solitaire, a suite of over
200 games.
Open source & the author has answered questions.
