At least compared to before, this recent version is taking forever to
start up.

In Task Manager, see if MsMpEng is busy while this is happening.

I've seen slowdowns for anything which does an excessive amount
of disk I/O and Windows Defender is making the situation worse.
And some folders are worse for this than others (Windows Defender
takes more of an interest in potential email folders.)

Process Monitor can be used to tell you more or less exactly
what is happening in the machine at the time. If, for example,
there are 10000 registry accesses a second (which is a nothing-burger),
Process Monitor can capture all of them and the fact that the
same queries are happening over and over again.

That's the version I have running here, so as a test, I just started it.
It started almost instantly.

I block CCleaner with Windows Firewall. (I also uncheck "Automatically
check for updates".) You have to block all three executables in the
CCleaner program folder. When I launch CCleaner, it takes some time - a
few seconds - to render because it is trying to call the mothership and nag
me into buying something.

You have to manually check for updates. You have to un-block the three
executables when you update or else it won't update properly and you'll get
a wonky interface. But once it's updated, you just go back and re-block
the three executables again. Viola! Small price to pay to get rid of all
those pesky nags... which take time to exit... so it's almost a fair trade,
ehh?

YMMV.

What 'Black Lives Matter' (remember 'Pigs in a Blanket;

In Task Manager... The System Idle Process gets no lower than 94%
while I sit waiting for CCleaner to appear. Several times.

Maximum disk usage is 1%.

CPU is barely affected, maybe 1%.

Seems nothing unusual is happening on Task Manager graphs.

I use CCleaner frequently and since apparently there is something
wrong, I will probably do a simple restore of Windows and do the
update carefully, without startup programs. See what happens.

There are some to-do things for my installation anyway.

Before you get involved in all the ensuing conniptions, perhaps you should
consider simply completely uninstalling CCleaner reboot then do a fresh
install of your favorite CCleaner version...

Might save you a lot of headaches - just in case you haven't tried System
Restore in Windows 10 lately.

Just sayin'.

Did a clean restore Windows, with that version installed. No startup
programs. Still took forever. Reverted to the next oldest copy of
Windows (CCleaner v5.46.6652). Installed Windows updates. Opens quickly
like it should. I will adjust CCleaner settings and see it may be
something was different about that CCleaner installation. Otherwise it
will be left un-upgraded for a while.

I'm just stating the facts.

I have been using dual MVMe drives since early on. BLAZING fast
large file transfers of multimedia. Like having huge RAM drives
without configuring anything.

CCleaner fanboy?

Not particularly.
But it works fine for me on Windows 7 (64 bit).

No excuse really.
