Default spurious line feed when printing w/dot matrix printer

I sure hope some one can help me.
First the particulars: I am currently using Windows XP
with a Dell computer. I have no problems when I print with
my HP OfficeJet printer. However, I do have problems when
I use my dot matrix printers. Every once in a while I get
a spurious (unwanted) line feed. It sometimes comes in
the middle of the line. It does this when I am printing
from Word or in dBASE IV. (I have chosen the option of
running dBASE IV in the Windows 95 mode and the unwanted
line feed still happens.) I have several programs written
in dBASE and want to continue using the printouts. The
extra line feed in not critical but dog-gone annoying! Any
suggestions????
