frustrations...
Hello folks,
I have been helplessly trying to install either Windows or MSN Messenger, but upon completion of the install, system resources climb up to 100% and the icon eventually appears in the task bar, but is completely frozen. After some time, the system eventually freezes. There are no errors in the Event Viewer to help solve this issue. I am at my wits end with this bizarre problem and will soon uninstall MSN Messenger and will disable Windows Messenger through group policies. System Specs: ASUS P4B533 Windows XP SP1a D-Link 714+p router (UPnP-ready) Thanks for any help, Dave |

Solved my problem. The router I was using (or at least helping someone get
set-up) is a D-Link DI-714p+. New firmware was just released that seems to have fixed a poorly implemented UPnP, thus causing either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger to hang. Hi David,
Thanks for the feedback! There was something similar with one revision of Linksys firmware maybe a year or so ago (but I had forgotten until you posted this just now). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "David Shorthouse" wrote in message news:rndLb.25409$X%5.4773@pd7tw2no... frustrations...
Dear Jonathan
I have a similar problem but I do work with a (new) Sitecom WL 106 router. It claims to fully support UPNP (and I even see in the internet gateway it is allocating ports) but no no no way I get messenger working with audio NOR video. I can send/receive files however. I even put my pc in the DMZ but even that doensn't work. I put my computer on 'share internet connection', I disabled Qpacket scheduler' and i am becoming quite frustrated too... 4 nights trial and error and still no go. It does work when I dialin with phoneline. I have firmware 1008 for the sitecom router (www.sitecom.nl) Strange enough MSN Netmeeting does work, but there microsoft is shifting to MSN/messenger and less and less people use netmeeting. Any clue/tips? Thanks Piet "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote in message ... Hi David, Thanks for the feedback! Piet,
This may not help, but is further to my op regarding the D-Link 714p+ router. MSN Messenger 6.1 hung again and I went hunting through the router's configuration to figure out what set it off. Turns out that (somehow) the remote management setting on a port other than 88 caused MSN Messenger to hang.
